The Eternal City of Jerusalem. Markets, churches, mosques, temples, tourists, pilgrims, locals and clergymen of all persuasions… It is probably the most famous city on earth – the birthplace of two and centre of tension of three of the world’s major religions (out of five? six?).

White cobblestones on the ground, white stone walls all around, and white rainy sky above. The city is full of people of all ages, religions, cultures, dress codes and skin colours. It is like Mecca, but for everyone in the world. I didn’t feel it immediately when we got there; that feeling took some time to develop. There are older cities, more cosmopolitan, bigger or smaller, uglier or better architecturally, but none of them can be compared to Old Jerusalem.
